BW-424. Shoshone Beaded Buckskin Doll. Ex-Museum piece. 13”, stuffed with buffalo hair. Dress decorated with leather belt and glass trade beads, as are the moccasin boots. Trade bead eyes and mouth and a pricked pucker to indicate a nose. She has two ear adornments made of elks teeth. Hair is made from horsehair and is braided into two plaits tied with strip of crimson fabric. A pigment-painted fan is carried in the hand, and a parfleche knife sheath is at the waist. Great detail work here. Beautifully decorated. Great history and comes with a wonderful, detailed, signed letter from the Museum! Wind River Reservation in C. Wyoming. Decorated with glass trade beads in a horseshoe pattern over pigment-dyed buckskin, it has a buffalo fur head, a horsehair tail wound with wool floss, and feet and horns made of bird bones and talons.
