Pipe C-324. 2-3/8”H x 2-3/8”L x 2”W. Effigy of a human head in the round Made of off-white Georgian Marble. Etowah Culture. Found in Bartow County, Georgia. Has a couple of old notes with history. The first is handwritten and says “Purchased from Bale Olson while at the Minn. Archaeological Society show – Fairbluff, Minn. Oct 2001 – traded/purchased it from Lloyd Dugstad of Allert Lea, Minn. Lloyd is one pictured in Who’s Who #2, page 59. Lloyd purchased pipe from Iowa Falls Museum that closed at sale in the 40’s. Lloyd 87 years old”. The second note, probably from the Museum, is typed and says “Sculpture pipe bowl. Etowah culture, Mississippian Period, 1200-1450 AD. Bartow County, Georgia. Material Georgian Marble”. Perino felt it was made in the 1800’s. I have personally seen the marble effigy carvings at the Etowah Museum in Georgia and feel this is an authentic and ancient aboriginal-made piece. Pipe C-142. 3-3/4” high. Made of sandstone. Believed to be an effigy of a pregnant female. Fabulous human effigy pipe in the round; museum quality piece.
