Clovis 732. 3” x 1-1/4”. Carter Cave chert. Unfinished Clovis point with a story to tell – and it speaks volumes! This Clovis point was, for reasons we can only imagine, worked until almost finished, then discarded. The break near the tip, though not recent, occurred later in it’s life – not while being manufactured. It was fluted on one side, then the fluting platform was prepared for the other side. The final fluting strike was given and came up short and left a short channel flake that, some 14,000 years later looks like it could be pulled off with a fingernail. The fluting platform is still intact; minus the material removed by the final strike. The edge, pressure-flaking platforms are evident and some show the ancient preparation smoothing. Secondary edge re-touch and basal grinding was not completed. A great diagnostic piece of the technology of the first Americans! Found in Kentucky. Out of the John Palmer collection. $450.

Clovis 712. 2-5/32” x 1”. Made of fine-grained silicified sandstone in shades of tan and gray. Fluted both sides just short of ½ way. Has an ancient impact fracture to the tip. Found outside of Walsh, Colorado. (2) COA's from Ben Stermer, Bob Knowlton. $400.
